Ooty is one of the famous hill stations in India, situated in the State of Tamil Nadu. It is a part of the Nilgiri District and is known as Udagamandalam. It is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in India. Ooty is famous for its Tea gardens, scenic beauty, lakes, and lush green forest, and it has been the favorite destination for Bollywood and Tollywood for filmmaking.
A Boat ride in Ooty lake
The first thing in Ooty one can do is, go to Ooty lake and take a boat ride. It is an outstanding experience to sail in a row boat on Ooty lake. The view of the lake is mesmerizing. One will never forget the beauty of this place.

If you love flowers, this place is a must-visit. It contains thousands of species of exotic, indigenous flowers, plants, trees, and shrubs, and also It has lots of bonsai trees. There is one Italian garden, which was laid by Italian prisoners of world war-1. Because of these large collections, it is always considered a treasure for flower lovers.
Nilgiri Mountain Railway
There are only a few hill stations in India where Toy trains operate, this not only provides a mode of transportation but also attracts many tourists to these hill stations. Nilgiri Mountain Railway builds by Britishers in 1908 and this is the only rack railway currently available today. It runs between Coimbatore to Udagamandalam station(Ooty). You can do a journey from Ooty to Conoor to enjoy the scenic beauty of hills and forests. It takes you through Nilgiri valley, where you will see dense forest and lush green landscape. Like toy trains, stations too were tiny and beautiful. Both Toy trains and stations are listed as the world heritage site.
Stroll in a Tea estate
India runs on chai (Tea) is what I saw as the tagline in one of the famous Tea selling restaurant ads. This is true since Indians can’t think about a day without Tea. To fulfill this high demand for tea in India and abroad, Nilgiri Tea plays a vital role.
You can stroll around the tea garden and enjoy the view of its lush green field. Also, there is a tea leaf-picking activity, which one can do. As part of that, you can carry a Tea basket and pick tea leaves and put them in the basket. After finishing the garden stroll you can also visit a Tea factory and see Tea production. They will demonstrate how the tea leaves are picked and then subjected to steam and air drying then DE-stemming and DE-veining before finally grinding to a fine powder.
Safari ride in Mudumalai forest
Near Ooty, there is a tiger reserve known as Mudumalai National Park. It is 25 km away from Ooty in the Nilgiri foothills. This is one of the quietest and most dense forests. One can go for a Safari ride in a minibus. Here, you will get a chance to see wild animals like Tigers, Elephants, dear, Peacock, Gray Langur, etc.
Morning walk alongside Ooty lake
You can get up early n the morning and walk alongside Ooty lake. It’s a good way to spend some quality time with your dear one or family.
